Melvin Hawkins started his Dj career at the early age of 16. His mother introduced him to music in the early 70’s, she was the one who bought him his first record.

Mel was a great at listening to music and getting the best out of it he spent many of hours and days just listening to music in his bedroom. He was given his stage name Mixxin Mel by a couple of his childhood friends who would come over to his apartment and he would be in his room mixing and scratching learning the tricks of the trade. 
By learning how to beat match and scratch on time and by ear because there were no videos out then, so he would listen to records and then try to figure out what Mixmaster Ice, Grand Master Flash, Joe Cooley to name a few were doing to make those sounds.
After much practice and many house parties Dj Mixxin Mel made a name for himself.

And in over 40+ Years have continued to put the needle to the record. He has worked at KALA 88.5 and 105.5 where he got his broadcasting skills sharpened up after he got a degree at the American Institute of Commerce Collage in Radio Broadcasting and Business Management.

He also opened up an Recording Studio for Hip Hop artist as well as other genres of music in the late 1990’s Delta Lab Recording Studios where he sharpened up his skills as a producer and engineer.

There has never been a time that he hasn’t embraced technology in always be it computers, new dj equipment to the rip age of livestreaming and podcasting, and he has a knack at Photography and Film making. As with everything technology is the FUTURE!
